Tokenization
Tokenization is the process of replacing sensitive card data with a unique identification token that retains all the essential information without compromising security. The Tokenization API is designed for anyone in need of a single set of tokenization APIs to simplify their token processing.
Availability
The Tokenization API is available in the following regions:
Tokenization type | Region(s) supported |
---|---|
Network tokenization | United States (US), European Union (EU) |
Safetech tokenization | United States (US), Canada (CA) |
Bulk tokenization | United States (US), European Union (EU) |
How tokenization works
The following steps help you get started with Tokenization:
- Request access — Follow the steps in Getting started to set up access to the Tokenization API.
- Determine the type of tokenization you require:
- Network tokenization — Learn about token provisioning and how to request a cryptogram for your payments
- Safetech tokenization
- Bulk tokenization — Learn how to manage bulk keys and manage bulk tokens.
- Request a token to tokenize payment details — Learn how to request a token.
- Manage the state of the token — Learn how to manage token state change.
- Manage your notifications for tokenization — Learn about token lifecycle management.
Benefits of tokenization
In the first transaction with your consumer, we collect the payment information and provide a token for it. The token is then sent to your server for future use. Here are some of the benefits of tokenization:
- Helps you comply with payment card industry (PCI) standards.
- Reduces the impact from potential data leaks and exposures.
- Stores the consumer’s payment details for a faster payment experience.
- Offers consumers their stored payment details for later payments.
- Saves payment details for subscription/recurring payments.
- Submits subsequent payments for subscription/recurring payments.
