J.P. Morgan Payments first Developer Fintech Meetup recap
12 November 2024
On October 8, our office in San Francisco hosted the very first J.P. Morgan Payments developer fintech meetup. Nearly 50 tech enthusiasts from the Bay Area and beyond gathered for this event, coinciding with San Francisco's Tech Week. Attendees ranged from product managers to founders and developers, all eager to explore how J.P. Morgan Payments is evolving into a developer-first organization through the enhancements in our Payments Developer Portal (PDP). The event featured two talks and offered plenty of opportunities for networking, making for a lively and invaluable meetup.
Highlights from the developer talks: What is the PDP and how Sardine leverages data from Account Validation Services (AVS)
The first talk covered the PDP, providing an overview of how we currently do business with our API products, how we’re adding new features and APIs to the portal and our vision of the future. The PDP is more than a website: it’s a digital marketplace, a workspace with self-service capabilities and an API platform. We recognize that it will take a developer-first mindset to achieve our vision of a robust, feature-rich and self-service developer portal. To this end, we welcome feedback from developers and customers, as we view feedback as being invaluable in helping us build out a world-class PDP experience.
During the second talk, Sardine spoke about how they leverage data from one of the APIs on the PDP, Validation Services, to help combat fraud. Our Validation Services API can help validate new payee information, including both individual accounts and entities such as businesses. Sardine spoke about how they combine data from different providers, as well as on device intelligence to assess the risk of a transaction or account. The talk also included a live demo showcasing fraud detection in real-time using Sardine.
The conversations: What developers were talking about
The types of attendees the event attracted were exactly what we hoped: sophisticated and highly technical. They didn’t need to be sold on the idea of the developer being important—they are the builders, and they understand their influence inside of their companies. They also have experience with industry-leading developer portals, so they understand the importance of a great developer experience when they are building.
The questions asked during both talks dove directly into the products and how they differ from existing solutions on the market. The feedback we received was positive and incredibly useful . Attendees were energized that a firm the size of J.P. Morgan is taking developers so seriously and is putting the emphasis on them in designing products and services.

As we continue to build out our PDP, we welcome you to create an account and explore our products. The PDP aims to be more than a website: It is a digital marketplace, a workspace with self-serve capabilities and an API platform enabling you to access tools for accepting, managing and sending payments on a global scale. We welcome all feedback and questions you may have.
