Product Configuration

You use merchant product onboarding and configuration APIs to create, configure, and maintain accounts and products on the Commerce platform. After you onboard a client through Digital Onboarding, create a merchant account by using the Product Configuration API. You must have an active merchant account to process payments and receive settlement payouts.

Before you begin

To create a merchant account for your client, collect the following information:

  • Client business information, such as contact details.
  • Projected sales volumes.
  • Bank account information for settlement funding.

The merchant onboarding process is cumulative. You can collect data across various systems or user interfaces and submit it to the merchant onboarding system in increments over time. After all required data is collected, trigger a submission to create the merchant account.

Merchant account creation steps

After your platform triggers the creation of a merchant account, we use the client's data to fulfill our regulatory and compliance obligations and to ensure client safety.

Important steps within the merchant account creation process may include the following:

  • Bank account verification: J.P. Morgan ensures that your client's bank account is in good standing.
  • Network registration: By law, we are required to register every merchant with the credit card networks.
  • Additional due diligence: We review information about your client to confirm business activities and to check for risks, such as doing business with sanctioned countries or behavior that has characteristics of money laundering.
